Porcelain Crowns

Most people have broken, decayed, or weakened teeth, with some having the teeth filled with the wrong fillings, making them lose their smiles and confidence. If you are suffering from any of these, you should consider a full porcelain crown procedure. Porcelain crowning is an aesthetic dentistry procedure that involves restoring the damaged teeth to their natural look using porcelain crowns. Porcelain crowns are ceramic teeth caps that encircle or cover the damaged tooth to give back its natural look. The crowns are fixed firmly to the teeth using dental cement. Our dentists at Smile Family Dentistry can help you with the process, including designing and placing the crown to bring back your confidence and smile and also prevent further teeth damage.

Types of Porcelain Crowns

There are several types of porcelain crowns to choose from, depending on the teeth condition and look desired. Some of these include the traditional Feldspathic Porcelain, Empress Crown, Procera crown, Lava crown, Zirconia crowns, and Emax crowns. Feldspathic porcelain is the commonly used method and offers the best finishing and beautiful look. Our dentist will guide you on the best choice, according to your needs. All porcelain crowns are best used by patients who are allergic to metal fixtures.

The Importance of Porcelain Crown

There are different reasons why individuals choose porcelain crowns over other dental procedures. One of the main benefits is that it gives a transparent, natural, and aesthetic finish to the tooth, making the crowns unrecognizable. The process also has no allergic reactions to the user and is compatible with any teeth compared to other teeth fillings. Porcelain crowns also allow for teeth alignment and correction, and it's ideal for patients who have reduced mouth space and those looking for natural ways to replace lost teeth.

The Porcelain Crown Fixing Procedure

If you have any teeth defects, including decay, weak and broken teeth, you need to visit our offices and have the situation checked. If our dentist finds it fit to carry the process, they will first prepare the tooth by cleaning it, reshaping it, and taking the impression using dental putty to create the crown. The tooth can also be shaped to allow the crown to fit comfortably at the top. First, you will get a temporary crown, which confirms the position and how the actual crown will fit before getting booked for the final appointment. The fabrication of a full porcelain crown can take two to three weeks, depending on the design. During your next visit, the provisional crown will be removed; the teeth cleaned and roughed to enable the crown to hold firmly onto the tooth. The crown is then firmly placed on the tooth using the recommended dental cement. After the procedure is done, the patient has to maintain the crowned tooth regularly to prevent damage. These maintenance practices include cleaning the teeth and avoiding biting, grinding, and chewing hard foods and particles using the crowned teeth.

If any of your teeth are in bad shape caused by staining, decay, or are broken, you need the porcelain crown procedure done to avoid further damage and to restore their look.
